Miele S5 Buying Guide

Miele S5 Galaxy Similarities

All Miele S5 Galaxy canister vacuum cleaners share a number of great features.

  • Telescopic Wand
  • Hepa Filter
  • Quiet Operation
  • Lightweight and Easy to Move
  • Powerful Vortex Motor
  • 29.5 feet operating radius

Each also comes equipped with standard tools and accessories like a Mattress Tool, Dusting Brush, and Crevice Tool.  All S5 Galaxy model vacuums also include a parquet tool for hardwood floors.

Miele S5 Galaxy Differences

The primary differences between the S5 models are as follows:

1. Type of Floor Tool

All Miele S5 models come with a powered floor tool except for the Miele Pisces S5280, which instead comes with a Air Turbobrush (model STB205).  There are currently three different powered floor tools to choose from.  The basic powered floor tool is the SEB217 Powerhead/Electric Floor Tool. The SEB228 and SEB236 are considered deluxe floor tools and are available with most models that accept powerheads at an additional cost.

2. Type of Handle (Deluxe or not)

The Pisces is also the only Miele S5 model that does not come equipped with the deluxe handle. The deluxe handle is ergonomically designed to help provide a better grip and is especially useful for those with arthritis or anyone that has trouble holding something for long periods of time.

3. Type and Location of Controls

The final difference between the Miele S5 Galaxy models is the positioning of the vacuum controls. Dial controls allow you to adjust the power settings of your vacuum by adjusting a dial. The models with step controls allow you to adjust the vacuum power settings using your foot, which is perfect for people that have trouble bending down.  The final types of control is the handle controls as offered by the Miele Capricorn. These handle controls are extremely useful because it allows for power adjustments without having to return to the vacuum.

Other than the Pisces model, the biggest difference between the Capricorn, Leo, Callisto, and Earth models is the type and locatoin of the controls. All of these vacuums, if using the same powerhead, will provide equal cleaning performance.
